NWSFS May Nomination Social – May 30, 2026

Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 4PM

Please join NWSFS for our May Nomination Social at the home of Yvonne and Eric Pawtowski on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, in Lynnwood. The social will begin around 4 PM and continue until around 10 PM, or whenever we get tired.

NOTE: COVID vaccination will not be checked, but we do ask that anyone who may have it not attend. Side gate will be open so people can enter back yard directly. There will be plenty of seating outdoors. Masks are not required but are welcome.

If you need info on the address or contact info, email us at (info AT nwsfs.com) or visit our Facebook page.

As usual, this is a potluck, so bring your contribution of a main dish (occasionally have enough), side dish (rarely have enough), munchies (usually have enough), or dessert (often have enough, if there is such a thing as enough dessert). Bring your own beverages if you want something particular, although some basic beverages will be available. NWSFS members are encouraged to attend, and non-members in the SF/Fannish community are welcome, as always. We hope to see you there.

There will be a grill running. The Pawtowskis will be cooking some extra sausages and dogs to share. Anyone who wants to bring stuff to grill is quite welcome.

The main television has an HDMI input and will likely be used to display photos of interest. If you have electronic photos to share, from Fannish events, the previous Norwescon, or whatever, please bring them.

Logistics: There is parking on the street near the house. Parking in the driveway is okay, you don't need to worry about blocking anyone in. Usually it's not hard to find parking. The neighborhood has a lot of hills, so be careful. There are three stairs leading to both entrances. The back door doesn't have stairs, but the path is too narrow for a wheelchair, and possibly more trouble than it's worth. There are no domesticated animals living there, pets are welcome, and Daniel will be bringing his dog over for the day. Smoking is outside only, please.

This was also our annual Nomination Social. Due to our updated bylaws, we accepted nominations for two SFN/NWSFS Board of Directors positions instead of the three officers (the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer will be selected by the new five-person Board of Directors).

NWSFS Bylaw Changes Approved September 27, 2025

As part of the NWSFS revitalization effort, members identified that our bylaws needed a significant overhaul. Over four decades, both fandom and the purpose of NWSFS have evolved, but we were still operating under two tightly linked sets of bylaws, one for Science Fiction Northwest (our legal entity) and one for the Northwest Science Fiction Society (our social organization).

To help NWSFS run more smoothly and plan for the future, we've combined those two sets into a single, unified document. This simplifies how we operate and ensures compliance with Washington State law.

Key updates include:

At the September 27, 2025 Board meeting at the Seattle Public Library, Northgate Branch, member ballots were counted and the revisions ratified. The vote passed overwhelmingly: 20 yes, 0 no, with one illegible ballot.
